"When we live before men as we should, the body of Christ will Increase,
the finances will Overflow, and the kingdom of God will Advance"

Pastor John H. May humbly accepted his call to Ministry in 1989. Beginning with his ordination, February 25, 1990, by Rev. Joseph Phillips and the Nazaree Baptist Church, Pastor May received numerous accolades such as Bible Certificates, Evangelism Trainer, and several Administration and Christian Education certifications. Upon his completion of studies from the Birmingham Baptist College, in Birmingham, AL, in 1991, Pastor May served and led the Union Baptist Church, of Coffeeville, AL for three years until God placed him at Delaware Street Missionary Baptist Church. He continued his education at the Urban Alternative where he became a certified Theologian.

Pastor May preached his first sermon “Come Out From Among The Stuff” at Delaware in 1994 and has been preaching and teaching there until August 30, 2017. Under his leadership the church membership grew exponentially, spiritual connections thrived and finances flourished. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Pastor May has stepped out on faith to become the founding pastor of Higher Power Church Ministries on September 3, 2017. He is a conference/seminar presenter, teacher and speaker, imparting wisdom and life experiences boldly for God. He not only speaks locally, but wherever he may be called to travel. He has charged the officers, leaders, and congregation of Higher Power to seek to host the presence of God: “A wise man is he that wins souls”.

Co-Founder of Higher Power Church Ministries, Dr. Dorothy S. May RNC, MSN, PhD, is a remarkably accomplished woman of God with several national certifications and recognitions. After receiving her Master’s degree in Nursing Administration from the University of Mobile in 1994, Dorothy earned her PhD. Doctorate of Religious Philosophy in Christian Psychology from Jacksonville Theological Seminary in Jacksonville, Florida, where she was also ordained to the gospel ministry in May of 2003. Dr. Dorothy S. May is also a published author of 2 books.

She is most proud of her BA (born again) degree, which is demonstrated in how she has served with her husband of 42 years, Pastor. John H. May, former Pastor of the Delaware Street Missionary Baptist Church for 23 years. There, she taught Sunday school, trained the evangelistic ministry, and headed several ministries.

John and Dorothy have a blessed marriage. They have one son Royce Timothy and three grandchildren which are the joy of their lives, Jonathan, Andrew and Sarah Elizabeth and a lovely daughter-in-law Dawn. God has blessed Dorothy to be a dynamic spiritual teacher, conference, marriage, and retreat speaker. Together, she and her husband form a winning team.
